THE HISTORY OF THE ADIRONDACKS

The Adirondack Park covers an area larger in size than Yosemite, Yellowstone, Glacier, Grand Canyon and the Great Smokies National Parks combined, and is the largest park in the lower 48 states. Encompassing millions of acres of protected forest preserve, as well as privately owned land, the Adirondack Park strikes a balance between public and private ownership.

You can learn about the natural history of our region while also interacting with some of the unique wildlife. And, don’t forget to take a stroll on the Wild Walk as you stroll above the tree tops where you can overlook the High Peaks Wilderness Region.
